Inner seasons to nourish the soul

Seasons Within Seasons Within the Seasons: Connecting to the Cycles of You to Nourish the Soul

February 28, 20256 min read

Today marks the last day of summer, the golden warmth lingering in the air as we prepare for the shift into autumn. Tomorrow, as the leaves begin their slow transformation, nature reminds us that change is both inevitable and necessary. But what if I told you that these natural rhythms aren’t just about the weather? They are also an invitation to nourish the soul by aligning with the seasons within us.

As women, we experience our own unique rhythm, a 28-day cycle of inner “seasons” that can help guide how we live, work, care for ourselves and perhaps, change our life circumstances. When we tune into this rhythm, we can access the blueprint of our soul life to gain insights about our energy, creativity, and emotional well-being.

At Nourish Connect Thrive, we believe that connecting to your inner seasons helps you live in alignment with your true self. In this article, we’ll explore these monthly cycles and how they reflect the seasons of nature, offering an opportunity for self-discovery, balance, and a transformative experience.

Nature as Our Teacher

If there’s one thing nature has taught us, it’s that everything moves in cycles. From the budding life of spring to the reflective stillness of winter, these seasons aren’t just external, they exist within us too.

Take a moment to think about the energy of each season. Spring brings a burst of life and possibility, Summer is full of vibrancy and outward energy, Autumn invites reflection and release, and Winter allows rest and restoration. Now imagine these seasons playing out within your body every single month.

Our menstrual cycle is like nature’s seasons in miniature:

Winter (Menstruation): A time of inward energy, rest, and release.

Spring (Pre-Ovulation): New ideas and growth emerge. Energy begins to rise.

Summer (Ovulation): The peak of outward energy, creativity, and connection.

Autumn (Premenstrual): A time for reflection, evaluation, and letting go.

This connection between nature and our inner cycles is profound. Just like we can’t control the weather, we can’t control the ebb and flow of our bodies. Instead, we can choose to work with these natural rhythms to create more balance, understanding, and compassion in our lives.

Why Does It Matter?

Most of us were never taught about these inner seasons. In this modern life, we were raised to follow a 24-hour productivity cycle, pushing through every day as if our energy and focus should always remain constant. But here’s the truth: women don’t operate on a 24-hour cycle.

We’re on a 28-day rhythm, with fluctuating hormones that impact our mood, energy, and focus. Ignoring this natural rhythm, by pushing when we should rest or retreating when we have energy to give, often leads to burnout, frustration, and the sense that we’re constantly swimming against the tide.

When we resist the flow of our inner seasons and the pressures of life build, we can feel disconnected, drained, or stuck. But when we listen and honour these natural shifts, we create space to nourish the soul, to embrace rest, creativity, and transformation in a way that feels natural and fulfilling.

Listening to Your Body’s Wisdom

In one of our recent women's circles, we explored this idea of seasons within the month. One of the women shared how life-changing it was to recognise her cyclical energy. She started tracking her cycle, noticing how her energy shifted from week to week. She then shared this newfound awareness with her friends, and they began noticing the same patterns.

This ripple effect is the power of connection. When we learn to honour our rhythms, it not only transforms how we feel, it creates space for others to do the same.

So how do we start this personal journey?

By simply tuning in. Here are a few gentle steps to reconnect with your inner rhythm:

Track Your Cycle: Day 1 begins with the first day of menstruation. Over the month, note how you feel physically, emotionally, and energetically.

Notice the Patterns: Are there times when you feel more inward and reflective? When you feel energised and creative? Use these clues to map out your “seasons.”

Honour the Shifts: For example, during your “winter,” give yourself permission to rest and say no to commitments that feel overwhelming. In your “summer,” lean into social events and creative projects.

It’s not about perfection, it’s about awareness. And this awareness builds self-compassion. Instead of fighting against what your body needs, you can flow with it.

A Glimpse into Each Season

Winter (Menstruation): Rest, reflect, and restore. This is a time to let go of what no longer serves you and create space for something new. Prioritise self-care and inward energy.

Spring (Pre-Ovulation): Like new blossoms on the trees, this is a time for growth and fresh ideas. Start new projects, dream big, and embrace the lightness of this season.

Summer (Ovulation): This is your peak energy period, a time to connect, share, and celebrate. You might feel more confident and sociable, ready to take on the world.

Autumn (Premenstrual): As energy begins to turn inward, reflect on what’s working in your life and what’s not. This is a powerful time for letting go and preparing for the next cycle.

Finding Self-Compassion

The beauty of understanding your inner seasons is that it allows you to treat yourself with more compassion. When you know that feeling tired in your “winter” or emotional in your “autumn” is part of a natural cycle, you can release the guilt or shame that often comes with it.

Instead of wondering why you can’t “keep up,” you can give yourself permission to slow down, ask for help, and prioritise your needs. And by showing up for yourself in this way, you’ll find you’re able to show up for others with more ease, clarity, and kindness.

If you’re seeking a deeper connection with yourself, start by embracing the wisdom of your own inner seasons. Notice when you need rest, when you feel most vibrant, and when reflection calls. In doing so, you’ll find simple, beautiful ways to nourish the soul and bring more ease, joy, and authenticity into your life.
